The Land That Time Forgot Task 4

Evaluation

When I first got the brief of this project, I already liked the Theme "The Land That Time Forgot", because it sounded adventurous. After we looked through the brief as a class, my friends and I started talking about different ideas we had. I already had a few ideas in mind, and I have them noted down on Task 1. When I started doing my research I already knew what my story was going to be about, so I researched into clothing styles like Steam Punk. When we were asked to do a test story, I thought we could use our main story as a test story, but after a week I found out that we had to have a completely different story for test story. So I had to make one up, I came up with using the name Time, and making him/her a character. As I was thinking about a story I decided to make 4 different characters that, become a group of hero's and they all just have one name, and no surname. When there initials are put together it make the word T.I.M.E.

After completing the character designs, I started working on backgrounds/setting. I find backgrounds difficult because, I am not good with drawing environments. If I redid this project I would spend more time on drawing environments, than character designs. After completing the test story, I started working on my main story. I found it difficult to come up with an outfit for my main character, because he lives on a magical island, that is inhabited by mythical creatures. As I was thinking about ideas, I started talking to friends and family because, I didn't know what his outfit would look like. Would his outfit look unique, other worldly, magical, or scruffy and dirty. If he did wear an other worldly out fit, what would it look like. These are the things that I was thinking about at the time. So when I asked others, they said he should wear torn and scruffy clothes because he lives in a place where there is no civilisation. I did a few drawings but I still didn't like his outfit, it just didn't feel wright. When I asked my brother he said, just make him wear cloths, because don't some of the mythical creatures wear cloths, they could just make his out fit. That is the advise that helped me find the wright one. As a drew the character, I realised that I am making my character to detailed so, I redrew him but made him look more simple, and less complected. Because I focused more on the characters, I only managed to do a few backgrounds, I found designing backgrounds difficult and I didn't have enough time to design them and research different backgrounds Ideas and references. I also found it interesting when I was trying to design, the mythical bird that would rescue Eon. I did a few designs, trying to make the bird look unique by giving it horns, and trying to make it look kinda fluffy. I was really pleased with the end result, because to me it looked caring and majestic. I also did a page of baby drawings because I wasn't used to drawing baby's and I wasn't familiar with the anatomy, but I got the shape write after a couple of tries. I did this because in my story when Eon was a baby he wonders the island and meets different mythical creatures. I really liked this project, because I was able to do a lot of drawing and that has improved my drawing skills.

When I started animating on Toonboom, I found it difficult because I am not use to using a digital tablet, as I was drawing I started improving so, I kept going back and fixing the mistakes I had made, and because my drawings turned out really ruff, I kept neatening my drawings. Also the only reason I used Toonboom was because, I had the software at home, but when I saved my work on to my USB and tryed to open up the file on my Laptop at home, the file wouldnt work and I think thats because I have version 8 and the collage has version 8.1.  Also when I checked the preview of the animation, the clip played very fast, so I tried to change the frame rate, but I couldnt so I had to open up a new project and change the frame rate before I clicked ok, them I had to copy and paste all the layers and frames into that project. Then I checked the prieview to make sure the animation played at the right speed, and it did. If I knew this from the begining I would have just used Photoshop at collage instead. I really like this project and, if I did this project again I would probably make my animation in Photoshop, and I would have done more backgrounds design for my animation.
