Practise Filming

Me and my a few of my class mates practiced filming, by going to Bradford town center and filmed from different views and angles, so before we filmed our trailer we would know how to use a camera. I found this task pretty fun, but the only problem I would say was that it was very cold on the day. Also we used one of our class mate own camera, so we didn't have a tripod so when we were filming our hands were cold so the footage wasn't very clear because at the time we didn't realise, that our hands were numb and we weren't holding the camera steadily, so the footage turned out very shaky. But if we had a tripod the footage would have turned out more clear. So if I had to film again I would have got a tripod so the footage would have turned out better.

Task 2

Story Ideas

-1st Idea  

A boy who thinks he's a ninja, falls in love with a girl on his first day of high school. He ends up stalking her because he thinks no one will notice but, she already has a boyfriend and he sees him staling her so he ends up fighting him. The ninja boy sees the girls boyfriend as his rival and enemy, he ends up losing and he gets humiliated by the girls boy friend, but he humiliates him when the girl is there and she hasn't noticed him before because he always hides form her. So she ends up trying to stop her boyfriend but he ends up pushing her away, she then breaks up with him because she didn't like that side of him. She ends up apologizing on her boyfriends behalf to the ninja boy, but she ends up falling for him, but he ends up giving up being a ninja and runs away but when the girl finds out she ends up acting like a ninja and tries to find the ninja boy to tell him she likes him. When she finds him they end up going on there first date dressed up as ninjas but she finds out that he really is a ninja. And all this happens on the first day of school.

• I was thinking that I could make this funny by making the ninja boy make lots of mistakes.
• I could also make the ninja boy could act really weird and he whispers when he talks and maybe have a weird accent.

- 2nd Idea

One day a girl was given a book by her mother when she was only a baby, as her mother read her the book every night, the girl became attached to the book and it ended up becoming her favourite book. When the girl becomes a teenager she wishes she could go on a date with the character in the book. Because she always has bad luck when she tries to date anyone. Her wish becomes true and the character comes to life, the character confused and afraid ends up freaking out because he was pull out of his world and ends up in a world so strange and different to his. The girl was freaked out and was so happy at the same time and tries to make the character blend in. After she makes him change his clothes she makes him go on a date with her which turns out to be

I was think about making the book but, in stead I might have a real book that has a plain cover with no title. Because it would be easier and I would have more time to work on the filming and editing.

• Third gets attacked by dog or gets run over 
• After her third date dies she wishes she could date the character from the book

• Everyone she dates is called Bartholomeo because that's what the character in the book is called so she ends up dating people who have the same name as the character in the book

When I shared my ideas to my class mates they thought, I should add more humour to my trailer so I thought the main character could talk about the deaths as it happens on screen in a funny way. For example she could blame them for their deaths. Also when the main two characters have a moment and they stare into each others eye she could be talking in her head and maybe say "OMG is this really happening I love you Bartholomew ". Also I was thinking of maybe adding a time limit to how long he can be out of the book and at midnight he goes back into the book. An there is an epic scene where Bartholomew is getting sucked back into the book and they are trying to get a hold of each others hands and wind is blowing in there hair and there crying, and the trailer ends but if I had to make the film, She would have found a way to get into the book and live happily ever after with him.

Script

It took me a while to figure out what the characters were going to say. In the end I thought I could have the main character talk about whats going on. I had a vague idea of what my character was going to say, so before I recorded the sound I sat down with my actor to see what she thought. She thought it was ok but we did make a few changes to the script. The reason why I did this because I wanted my actor to feel comfortable playing the role, and I wanted my script and acting to go with my actors personality, so the acting would turn out better.

- Beginning

This is a story about me. When I was a little girl, my mother gave me a Magical Book, which she read to me every night. It had monsters and demons, but my favourite character was the hero of the story, who kills the monsters. Like most girls I dreamed of true love, but for some reason my dating life is terrible. I have really bad luck.

- 1st Date

My first date was called Bartholomew. It really didn't end well for him.

- 2nd Date

By the 5th date I new I has bad choice in men, but I still had hope. Or maybe not.

- 3rd Date

On the 10th date it was going really well. But he had "problems" just like every one else. Well it wasn't working out between us anyway.

Animation  

I was thinking of adding a short animation in the beginning of my trailer, but I decided not to because I wanted to focus more on my filming and the story, because I am not good at comedy or romance so I wanted to focus more on my story and how to add humour to my trailer. But if I did add animation it would have been about how my main character got the book from her mother when she was younger. So instead of adding animation I decided to put sponsors in the trailer where the animation was so pose to go. Which I mad myself on my phone app called Sketch Book Pro. It took me a day or so to make these, because I didn't have a clue of what they should be called and what they should look like. But I did have a look at movie trailers and, I had a looked at the sponsors that would pop up so I had an idea of what they should look like. All the sponsors I made are are all drawn on my phone and then I transferred the computer and added them to my trailer.

 
Props

I was going to have an outfit for one of my characters because he is from another world that is in a book. I couldn't think of a other worldly outfit so I thought he could just wear plain cloths that look dirt and kinda old, because his world is full of monsters and demons and its kind of med evil, and not very civilized so his outfit wont be very complex, he will just have a plain t-shirt, and the pants are held up by rope and his foot wear would be old and muddy. I did a ruff sketch of what I think it would look like. In the end I didn't use this idea because I would of had to buy material to get the out fit made, and it would be expensive so, instead my actor just had regular cloths on.

Vist to St Steven's Primary School

Me and my class my class mates went to visit, St Steven's Primary School for professional practice. We had to work with a year 6 class, a few of us presented our course work to the year 6 class. I was one of the ones who presented my work to the year 6 class, and I was very nerves. I ended up getting carried away and I couldn't stop talking because I was nerves. We each also had to work with a group of them and assist them with there claymations, the software they were using was very basic. They used plasticine and wire to make there models, the equipment they had to make the animation was a laptop and a webcam. As I was working with my group I was very uncomfortable, because they kept asking me personal questions and they were very rude, so I said to them that I didn't want to answer any personal questions. I was also very annoyed because one of the kids through some plasticine at me and I asked them politely to stop it, and focus on the work. Over all I thought it was ok but the group I had were very mischievous. As I was working with my group a kid from another group walked up to me, but found it difficult because he has a disability, and when I saw him in class he was on a wheel chair, he asked if he could look at my work because he liked it and, it made me feel really happy like I had a fan, he then came back and showed me his own drawings, which were really good. This made my day and kind of moved me as well, it also kind of inspired me to draw more.

Task 1

Pretty Woman 

A romantic comedy, is a film that has humor and usually revolves around the idea where true love concurs all. For example a famous romantic comedy film is Pretty Woman, it sold the most tickets ever for a romantic comedy in the United States. The film is about a prostitute in Hollywood called Vivian Ward who gives directions to a wealthy businessman called, Edward Lewis. Vivian's roommate Kit try's to encourages her to make Edward her client. So she tells him she will only give him directions if he pays her, he agrees so then she gets in the car and guides him their. She ends up staying with him over night, and in the morning he asks her if she would be his girlfriend for a week for social events, Vivian tells him it will cost but he agrees to pay her $3,000 and gives her access to his credit card to buy suitable clothing. After the week ends they fall in love but they have a fall out, and Vivian goes home and packs because she wants to go to San Fransisco, to earn a G.E.D for a better life. Edward has to go to the airport, but he ends up going in to the car with the chauffeur that took Vivian home, and decides to go see Vivian but on the way he ends up buying flowers.Edward then climbs the fire escape that leads to Vivian's apartment even though he is afraid of heights, and the film ends with them kissing on the fire escape. I thought the film was good when I watched it.

500 Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer is a film that jumps from different scenes from different days, for example there are scenes from day 290 and then 30 and then 188. The film is about Tom Hansen who trained to be an architect but, ends up getting a job at a greeting card factory in Los Angeles. Toms ends up falling for his bosses new secretary called Summer Finn, the next day there is a karaoke night, where Tom meets Summer and they end up talking about true love, and it turns out that Summer doesn't believe in true love and she doesn't want a boyfriend. Tom and Summer end up dating and then Tom shows Summer his favorite place in the city. After some time Tom and Summer go to the movies and watch The Graduate, and then go and get something to eat and Summer says she wants to break up with him, Tom doesn't take the break up well and his friends end up calling his little sister to calm him down. He is then invited to his colleagues wedding, he was so pose to go with his friend but his friend ended up bailing out at the last minute. So he went alone and ends up meeting Summer on the train, when Tom sees her he try's to avoid her but she notices him. They talk and start to have fun on the train, when they get to the wedding they end up dancing, and every thing seems like its going to get better between them. Summer invites Tom to her party that is going to happen the next day, Tom thinks they might be able to get back together but when he gets to the party, he ends up being alone and no one talks to him. He then sees Summer showing off her ring to some one and then realizes what kind of party he is at and rushes out almost bursting into tears. He then brakes down and quits his job, and starts looking at architecture. Tom ends up meeting Summer at his favorite spot in the city, and she says she is happy and she believes in true love because she found it in someone else. She holds his hand and says shes glad that Toms doing well then leaves, Tom says he hopes she really is happy. A few days later he then gets an interview, where he meets a girl that says she recognizes him from his favorite spot in the city, because it's also her favorite spot in the city. He then gets called for his interview but he comes back and asks her if she wants coffee, and she says "yes" he also asks for her name and she reply's "Autumn" and Tom looks at the screen and the movie ends. 

The Ugly Truth


The Ugly Truth is a romantic comedy about Abby Richter who is a TV producer in Sacramento, California. Abby really believes in true love and likes to read complex self help books like, "Chicken Soup for the Soul" and "Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus". She comes home from a date that didn't go so well and her cat changed the channel, she starts to watch the show that was on, called The Ugly Truth. The star of the show is called Mike Chadway, who is a cynic about relationships, Abby calls the show to talk to Mike and they end up arguing about True Love on air. The next day when she goes to work she finds out, that the TV station might cancel her show because of poor ratings. So the Station owner hired Mike to be apart of her show. In the beginning Abby thinks Mike is insensitive and disgusting, and he finds her naive and a control freak. When Abby gets home she finds the man of her dreams, a doctor named Colin who just moved in next door. When Abby tells Mike that she has found the Man of her dreams, he says that he can help her improve her chances with Colin. Abby is very skeptical but they end up making a deal, that if Mike is right about relationships and able to help her be with Colin, then she will work with him happily. But if Mike fails then he will leave the show. Mike ends up being right and he helps Abby get the man of her dreams but, Mike gets invited to The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and is offered a job at a better network so Abby canceled her plans on a romantic weekend with Colin, because she has to convince him not to take the job offer. They end up dancing, and realizing they have feelings for one another, Abby stops and says they have to get an early night because they are going to have to get up early in the morning and catch their flight. When waiting in the elevator to go to there floor they kiss, and go separate ways but when Abby gets to her room she hears knocking and opens the door, expecting Mike but it turns out to be Colin surprising her. Mike then knocks and Colin answers and Mike leaves, and Abby runs to Mike saying she opened the door expecting him but it was Colin instead. When Abby gets back to her room she ends up admitting to Colin that she has not been her self, and breaks up with him. When Abby gets back to Sacramento, California she finds out that Mike quit and joined there rival TV channel. Abby then has to find a replacement to take over Mikes job, and when it was time for the show to be aired live, the replacement for Mike was not acting right for the job. Abby quickly took over and when Mike sees her talking about men being weak, and untrue to there feeling, he rushes over and they argue on live TV and, he ends up confessing his love to her and the film ends. I liked the film when I watched it I thought it was funny and interesting.

Feature Film 

A feature film is also called a movie or a motion picture, and has to be more than 40 minutes long, according to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, American Film Institute, and British film Institute. But most feature films are about 70 to 210 minutes long. The difference between short films and feature films is the length and the budget because, in a feature film there are more actors, props and equipment, also there is the studio you will have to pay for, and the areas you are going to film. For example if you want to film out side you, will have to pay the person who owns the area, and hire guards to keep people away. So you need a bigger budget for a feature film compared to a short film.

TV Series are different from movies because movies usually have the beginning and the ending to the story and the movie lasts about an hour. But TV series are different because they have episodes that last either 20 minutes or 40 minutes with breaks and advertisements in between. And they usually have seasons and in each season there are about 12 - 23 episodes, I think because there usually vary, also some TV series have about 10 seasons for example the TV series called Supernatural. The difference between TV series and movies is the format in that the are shot. Movies are made in 70mm, and TV series are made in 35mm but this doesn't make much of a difference with the audience because they like both movies and TV series.

Trailers 

A trailer is an advertisement or commercial for a feature film that will be shown in the future at a cinema. The term trailer originates from when it was originally show at the end of the feature film screening  because it trailed after the film and basically recapped it. But that didn't last long because people ended up leaving the theatre after the film had ended. So they started to show it as a preview instead. Trailers are so posed to attract people and make them want to watch the film. Trailers have shots of the film which are funny, exciting or a scene that describes the story in a very vague way so it draws the audience closer but doesn't reveal any spoilers of the film. Trailers have to achieve this in 2 minutes and 30 seconds or less. Also the trailers show there sponsors and the company that helped them make the film in the trailer. For example :

Promotional Material

Promotional material is any media that can show and describe information about the chosen product. Promotional material can be brochures, websites, email or direct mail, billboards, trailers, t-shirts, posters and other merchandise. Also when you want to watch something on YouTube, and you click on the video you want to watch, it shows a random advert that promotes a certain product, the adverts usually last about 30 seconds and there is sometimes a skip button that appears after about 10 seconds after the advert starts,so You tube can be used as promotional purposes. Also the radio can be used as a promotional material because for example if your promoting music then it can be played on the radio for people to hear. Social media can be used for promoting many things because they can give you updates about your favorite actor, band, or video game.

Evaluation

In the beginning of this project when, I was first given the brief I was very excited because, there were a lot of story's that can be created with the theme Adventure Quest. I found it a bit difficult to come up with a story because there are a lot of ideas to choose from. A lot of my class mates already had an idea of what they were going to do, but I was not sure so I decided to create a spider diagram, so that I could put all my ideas and thoughts onto paper. After I did that I could make sense of my ideas. I had decided to base my story in Greece, because I wanted to add mythical creatures to my story. I  wanted to add something different to my story to make it more unique, I decided that all my characters would have the ability to turn parts of there body into their spirit animal.
Half way through as I was designing my characters, I realised I wouldn't have enough time to design all my characters and I was going to be difficult to decided what spirit animal the Olympian gods would have because there gods and there power must be stronger than a human, I ended up deciding that only my main characters would have that ability, and it would be given to them by Hecate the goddess of magic.

I found it very difficult to find a villain for my story so I had to make up the story as a was going along. I did some research on Greek mythology and how the Olympian gods came into power, and who created them and by researching more about them I ended up finding my villain. I had a lot of characters to design because there are twelve main Olympians and twelve Titans that would have to fight each other, because the Titans would be released by the villains Nyx and Erebus. I found it difficult to draw the characters because there wasn't much of a description in Greek mythology. I ended up designing a few of the Olympian gods and a few of the Titans, because I realised with the time period I have I wont be able to design all the characters.

When I was using mixed media to colour in my designs I found it very difficult to paint, I have done painting before but I haven't done it for about 2 year so I found it very difficult to get the right colours I wanted by mixing the acrylic paint. When I was painting the realm of darkness I wanted the ground to be an orange-ish grey but it turned out dark green, so I just went with the colours I had, it turned out ok. I also found backgrounds difficult to design because I am not used to drawing back grounds, because I usually draw characters, so throughout this project I found it difficult to design backgrounds, but I think I have improved in adding colour to my drawings and in drawing itself.

When I was presenting my work in a presentation to my classmates, I was very nerves, and when my tutor asked who would go first I volunteered because I wanted to get my presentation over and done with because I was very nerves. In my feed back I was told I presented it confidently but, I thought I look nerves and I got confused and I stuttered a little. In my feed back I was also told that I needed to design more backgrounds because, I had designed more characters and less backgrounds. I was also told that I should have explained my story in order because when I was explaining it I kept going back and forth with my story. I was also told to add more colour to my drawings because I had less colour in my drawing. After I got all my my feedback I did more background work, and I added more colour to my drawings and I used more mixed media. I used wax crayon, crayons,acrylic paint, and felt tips. I also started to design a head in sculptris, but i didn't finish it so i didn't add it to my work because its not complete.

I really liked this project I found it very interesting and I really enjoyed it. If I did this project again I would change the designs of my characters a little, and I would have done more backgrounds. I would have changed my story a little as well. I would also do more mixed media work and I would test the paint and colour to see if they go together and then I would have chosen the one I like and redo it more neat and in a bigger scale.
